My name is Nader and I born in San Sebastian 31 years ago. I graduated in Sociology from the University of the Basque Country in 2006. After some academical research studies in collaboration with the C.E.I.C.-I.K.I. and one of the researchers in this group, Diego Carbajo Padilla (Initiation rituals for making sociology. Basque Sociology Magazine nº43. 2007; Approach to the squat movement through a basque written sociology, VIII Basque Sociology and Science Congress. Bilbao. 2007), due to working as an assistant for the artist Ibon Aranberri (Ir. Tnº513. The Cave. 2008; La trama rururbana. 2009) I moved towards art.
Sociology provided me with some theoretical and methodological knowledge (post-structuralism, ethnomethodology…) but all the formal requirements which are demanded to produce scientific facts and artifacts moved me away from it. I always was attracted and had the tendency to create other kind of languages and fictions and I always kept an eye on the colleges studying in the Fine Arts Faculty. So I left the academic world to find an environment that let me work in other ways.
Working with Ibon turned out to be a perfect combination between artistic practice and theory: commitment with the work, critical attitude with the art production ways, procedures to approach the landscape notion, running-in the photographing practice, etc. At the same time, I started to use the developing lab. in Arteleku Art Centre and initiated friendships that helped me and encouraged me to develop my own projects. In 2008 I received my first grant in the artistic field.
Since that time, I have worked on my own with different materials such as photography, video, writing and sound. During the last years I have developed several works, most of them close to the matter of the border between nature and culture (caves, shepherding and hunting) and reflections about the ways of registering the reality, especially photographical and visual registering ways. Most of my works consist in research lines and work that stretch on combining field work, archive work and specific formalizations. Besides exhibitions could be mentioned film programming (Tradition and Betrayal. Zera Kultur Elkartea. 2010), talks (About shepherding representation. V Congress about Trashumacy Studies. 2010), articles (Dorsal Landscape, Zehar nº67. 2010) workshops (Dorsal Landscape, 2013. Bulegoa z/b), performances (Closed circuits, Club le Larraskito. 2013). I have also have worked with other artists such as Ingrid Buchwald (Ehizalerroak. 2010-2014), Carme Nogueira (Castillete, retablo minero. 2012), and Vazquez & Arrieta (Eight or Ten, Six or Seven Wolves. 2012-2013) and recently have taken part in Allan Kaprow. Other Ways (Fundació Antoni Tàpies. 2014) exhibition.
Although he is in contact with some active agents on the artistic field, he is not bound to any gallery. He understands his work as an incursion on the artistic discipline and he owns money from other activities too, such as working as a cameraman, video editing, gardener and other less creative activities. Nowadays he is also working as a technician to research the communal land´s intangible cultural heritage of a mountain area in the Basque Country.
