ANAHITA GHABAEIAN

Gallery director Dr Anahita Ghabaeian was born and educated in Iran, where she attended the French-Iranian School Jeanne D’Arc. She pursued her education in France, at the Jussieu - Paris VII University, where she also lectured from 1985 to 1997 on informatics, for Social Sciences students.

Anahita holds a Doctorate in History and Knowledge of the Third World 1962-1977, which she obtained in 1992, and a Master’s Degree on Applied Informatics in Economic and Social Management, obtained in 1996. Her thesis, Les Fédais, La naissance et le dévelopement de la lutte armée en Iran, serves as a critical analysis of the revolution in Iran, from 1962 to 1977.

It was her academic interest on the intellectual movements within Iran after 1977 that made her further explore the devlopment of art as a medium for expression. Photography seemed the most powerful media and led to the opening of the Silk Road Gallery, the first commercial gallery in Iran specialising in Photography.
